Tick Alert- The ticks are back!
Tick Alert- Shady Areas
The Lyme Disease Committee of the Dover Board of Health conducted a study of sports/recreation areas this past summer. The study was designed to determine the tick density around the town’s sports fields and children’s play areas. At each site, sunny and shady areas were compared and the result convincingly showed that shady areas have a dramatically greater number of ticks than sunny areas. The areas studied were around the Chickering fields and the Dover/Sherborn HS where spectators tend to gather. Based on this information we strongly suggest that, in addition to using the recommended precautions against ticks, spectators and participants avoid the shady areas around such facilities.
Please take precautions after going outside: perform a daily tick check on your children, yourself and your pets.
